There have been rumors about the date rape drug, rohypnol, in Aspen for years.  However, not until recently have reports gotten much attention.  Articles first appeared in the Aspen Times and the Aspen Daily News, but now the story has popped up on the ABC News website in the travel section.

"Flunitrazepam is marketed as a strong hypnotic and powerful sedative, anticonvulsant, anxiolytic, amnestic, and skeletal muscle relaxant drug.  A short-intermediate acting benzodiazepine derivative, flunitrazepam is prescribed for the treatment of severe insomnia, marketed by Roche most commonly under the trade name Rohypnol. It is also marketed in some countries under the trade names Flunitrazepam, Hipnosedon, Hypnodorm, Flunipam, Nilium, Vulbegal, Silece, Darkene, Ilman, Insom and Fluscand." - Wikipedia

While the drug is commonly known as a "roofie" and drinks spiked with the drug referred to as a "Roofie Colada", it has more recently been referred to as a "floorie" because when taken you are more likely to end up on the floor than the roof.

* Aspen is a small community, and we want to keep it safe.  If people are being drugged, somebody out there must have more information.  You can contact Aspen Undersheriff DiSalvo at 920-5300, or drop us a tip and we will report it for you.
